Bangladeshi filmfest to screen Iranian ‘Slaughter’

Iranian ‘Slaughter’ is to be screened at the 12th Int’l Inter University Short Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Iranian short film ‘Slaughter’ has been set for screening at the 12th edition of the International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) in Bangladesh.

Co-directed by Ako Zand-Karimi and Saman Hosseinpour, the flick narrates the story of a family that has to sell its only cow to live through a tough winter.

The family’s son, however, is not happy with the deal, so he lets the cow escape.

The film has so far attended a number of global events, including the 2018 Early Bird International Student Film Festival in Bulgaria, the 17th Third Eye Asian Film Festival in India, the 12th Kustendorf Film and Music Festival in Serbia, the 12th International Glasgow Short Film Festival in Scotland, the 14th Lecce Film Festival in Italy, the 9th FOKUS film festival in Denmark, the 12th Photometria International Photography Festival in Italy, the 3rd Film Fest Sundsvall in Sweden, and the 11th Skepto International Film Festival in Italy.

It won the Jury Prize at the 8th Rural Short Film Competition (Mostremp 2019) in Spain as well as the best screenplay award at the 7th Parma Music Film Festival in Italy.

‘Slaughter’ was also announced as the Audience Choice at the 2nd Fredonia Film Festival in the US and fetched Fereydoun Hamedi the Best Actor award at the 3rd International University Festival Cine-Literature of Agadir in Morocco.

The short film was also named the Best Fiction Film at "The Unprecedented Cinema" of the International Festival of Short Film in Estonia, won Best Short Film award at the 26th International Independent Film Festival - Publicystyka in Poland, and received Best Cinematography award at the Asian Cinematography Awards in the Philippines.

Starting from 2007 and organized by Dhaka University Film Society in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the 12th IIUSFF scheduled its online screenings over the coronavirus pandemic for July 28-30, 2020.
